THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION FUN FACTS
Sending diamonds into space is super exciting, but knowing that they will be spending about 30 days at the International Space Station, traveling at 17,500 miles per hour in low earth orbit makes this mission absolutely astonishing!
To celebrate this historic event, let's look at some fun facts about the incredible ISS.
You already know that the ISS is a large spacecraft that orbits Earth and houses astronauts, but did you know...
- The first piece of the International Space Station was launched in 1998.
- According to NASA, the ISS is as large as a five bedroom house and has two bathrooms, a gymnasium, and a big gym window called the cupola, which was the inspiration for our Cupola and Window On The World pendants.
- The ISS weighs one million pounds and is big enough to cover an entire football field.
- Many countries worked together to build this iconic spacecraft that doubles as a science lab orbiting about 250 miles above Earth. With six astronaut inhabitants from USA, Russia, Japan, and Europe, NASA uses the station to learn about living and working in space.
